# Home inventory list for insurance

List what you own room by room, with values, serial numbers and photos, so a claim after a fire, flood or burglary starts from a record instead of memory.

## Making an inventory an insurer can use

Go room by room, including the garage, shed and loft, and start with what would be hardest to replace or prove: electronics, furniture, jewellery, tools, bikes and instruments. For each item note what you would pay to replace it, when you bought it and any serial or model number, which is usually on a label on the back or underneath. A photo of the item, and of its label, helps more than a long description.

The total helps you check that your contents cover is not set too low. Insurers differ in what they want after a loss, so ask yours what records they accept; receipts and photos usually count for a lot.

**Keep a copy away from home.** A list that burns with the house is no use. Export CSV gives a spreadsheet file of every item (without photos) to email to yourself or save to a cloud drive; Import CSV adds items back from it, so you can also move the list to a new device. Print makes a room-by-room record with subtotals, with photos if you choose.

## Questions

**Is my inventory uploaded anywhere?**

No. Items and photos are saved in this browser's IndexedDB storage on this device and nowhere else. That also means there is no backup unless you export one.

**Why are photos not in the CSV?**

CSV is plain text for spreadsheets and cannot hold pictures. Keep the original photos in your photo library or print the inventory with photos included.

**Can I open the CSV in Excel or Google Sheets?**

Yes. The columns are Room, Item, Value, Purchase date, Serial or model and Notes. Edit it there and import it here again; files with similar column names import too.
